Nagpur: The Statutory Committee of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has given nod to new establishment schedule on Friday. The schedule is now waiting for clearance in the General Meeting. After approval from the State Government, according to the new schedule, there will be total 17,334 positions in the NMC.

The present establishment schedule was drafted in year 1976, when NMC was run according to the CP and Berar Act. At that time there were 12,625 approved positions. Out of them, only 8,200 were filled. The monthly expenditure of maintaining these positions is Rs 32 crore.

Presently the NMC is governed by the NMC Act. Hence, a new establishment schedule had become need of the hour. The new schedule will be sent to the State Government for approval after general consensus.

According to the new schedule, there will be a separate police station under NMC which will be having a strength of 80 personnel. The station will be headed by a Joint Police Commissioner level officer. Chairman of the Statutory Committee Bandu Raut has proposed Municipal Courts under NMC on the lines of Pune Municipal Corporation. Raut also made announcement about 4-day Nagpur Mahotsav, which will begin from December 16.
