The name is Panky’s – short for two Pankajs, but the colour scheme is NOT pink! It is pure orange and white. The van is orange and so are the plates. Orange, white and very, very clean. You cannot help noticing that the cooking pans are brand new and of very high quality too. Unlike most food vending street joints, I dare say.

So is the menu very different. You will not find it any restaurant, let alone in the choice of street food.
They have items on the menu like – Kheema (Veg) pav; kheema made from minced veggies and soya granules; Spanish rice; a choice of pasta with red, white or green sauce etc.

We tried the kheema – pav and could not believe it was not regular mutton kheema. Tasted as good, or better, without being oily or too spicy. The Spanish rice that followed was tangier and full of exotic vegetables like yellow and red capsicum. We saw olives being chopped up for the pasta.

“I aim to serve quality food that will be full value for money. Though I am a ‘pucca’ non veg loving person, I am going to serve pure veg in my food van since vegetarian people are touchy about the same pans being used to cook non-veg .Where my van is located, right outside the VNIT main gate, there is lots of choice for non veg such as chicken burgers, Chinese, biryanis etc. so I am going to stick to vegetarian” says Pankaj Tumram, owner of Panky’s. He is an MBA from a reputed college of Nagpur and also a choreographer and physio trainer!

Though he is new to the food business, his staff clearly isn’t. His ‘Manager’ – another Pankaj, has more than 20 years of catering with a renowned caterer of Nagpur. The two cooks are trained too and know what they are doing. That is the main difference one could make out between Panky’s and other food ‘start-ups’.

So next time you are in the mood for some kheema but its a ‘Shravan Monday’ or another such day – head out to Panky’s for some guilt free indulgence.

They can indulge your sweet tooth too. The cold coffee and the ‘Chocolate Brownie’ Soup are delectable!
