7 Bookies Arrested During MI vs CSK Match
Nagpur: A major online betting racket operating during the Indian Premier League has been busted by the Crime Branch in Nagpur. Acting on a tip-off, police raided a location under the Sadar police station limits on Tuesday and arrested seven accused involved in illegal betting activities.
According to police sources, the betting operation was actively taking wagers on a high-profile match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The accused were reportedly using online platforms to facilitate real-time betting during the match.
Investigations revealed that a bookie from Chhattisgarh had rented a flat in Nagpur to run the operation. The racket is believed to have links extending beyond the city, with involvement suspected from individuals based in Nagpur, Jabalpur, and Gondia.
During the raid, police seized electronic devices along with cash and other materials worth approximately ₹2 lakh. The accused were identified as Harshal Devghare, Abhay Singh Thakur, Prabhat Pathrabe, Mowesh Saiyyad, Abdul Latif Khan, Hamid Raza, and Abdul Tanvees.
All seven were produced before a local court on Friday and have been remanded to five days of police custody. Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the betting network and its connections.
