Nagpur :  The ongoing cab drivers’ strike in Nagpur has officially ended after eight days, bringing much-needed relief to commuters-especially air travelers—who had been facing major disruptions since April 14.

The strike was called off on April 22 following an assurance from District Collector Kumar Ashirwad during a virtual meeting with key stakeholders. With cab services resuming, operations at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport have returned to normal.

Air Passengers Faced Major Hardship

During the strike period, passengers arriving at the airport were left stranded due to the unavailability of cabs. Many were forced to walk long distances along Wardha Road just to reach or leave the airport—turning what should have been a seamless journey into a stressful experience.

What Happened in the Meeting?

The meeting, held via video conferencing, included officials from MIHAN India Limited, the taxi drivers’ joint action committee, RTO, and Sonegaon Police Station. However, representatives from major ride-hailing platforms like Uber, Ola, and Rapido were notably absent.

Authorities issued directions to take action against illegal bike taxi operations, particularly targeting Rapido and similar services.

Key Issues Still Unresolved

Despite the strike being called off, several critical demands raised by cab drivers remain unresolved:

  • Complete ban on bike taxis
  • Implementation of fare rates set by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA)
  • Display of official rate charts at the airport
  • Mandatory insurance documentation for drivers’ families
  • Ban on long-distance pickup operations

No final decisions were reached on these demands during the meeting, leaving room for potential future disputes.

What’s Next?

While the immediate crisis has been resolved, the lack of concrete decisions on key issues suggests that tensions between cab drivers and aggregators may continue. Authorities are expected to hold further discussions in the coming days.

For now, commuters in Nagpur can expect smoother travel-but the bigger battle over regulations is far from over.
