Nagpur: Raising concern over rising cases of workplace misconduct, noted social activist and singer Amruta Fadnavis on Friday termed incidents like the recent sexual harassment case at a TCS office in Nashik as “deeply unfortunate,” stressing that such issues are not isolated to one company but have surfaced across the corporate sector.

Addressing the media after attending the ‘Nari Vandan Act Women Intellectual Conference’ at the Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium, organised by the Nagrik Vikas Samiti, she said similar incidents had occurred during her tenure at Axis Bank as well.

Fadnavis underlined that timely reporting and whistleblowing played a crucial role in ensuring action against the accused in those cases. “Whenever such incidents occur, they must be reported immediately. Informing senior authorities and using whistleblower mechanisms is essential to ensure accountability and prevent recurrence,” she said, adding that silence only emboldens offenders.

The event was attended by several prominent dignitaries, including BJP State President Ravindra Chavan, Nagpur Mayor Neeta Thakre, BJP City President Dayashankar Tiwari, Vice-Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University Dr. Manali Kshirsagar, and Vijaya Marotkar.

Touching upon other recent controversies, Fadnavis expressed concern over the Paratwada sex scandal case, stating that such incidents highlight the need for greater awareness and vigilance among young women. She emphasized that while authorities are taking action, individuals must also exercise caution in their personal interactions.

She further stressed the importance of cultural grounding among youth, noting that a disconnect from traditional knowledge systems like the Vedas and Puranas can contribute to confusion and vulnerability. “There is a need to reconnect the younger generation with Indian cultural values,” she said.

Referring to the Ashok Kharat case, Fadnavis described it as “shocking,” alleging misuse of influence and intellect. She said there is a strong sentiment among women that strict punishment must be ensured in such cases.

Her remarks come amid growing debate over workplace safety, gender awareness, and the effectiveness of institutional mechanisms to address harassment, issues that continue to demand urgent attention across sectors.
