When officers reached the lakeside, they found a 40-year-old woman and her 22-year-old daughter standing dangerously close to the water’s edge. Their body language spoke louder than words, distressed, withdrawn, and emotionally overwhelmed.

Instead of rushing in forcefully, the police chose a different approach. Realising the fragile state of mind of the two women, officers began speaking to them gently, building trust step by step. Slowly, the silence broke.

The mother and daughter revealed they were residents of the Rameshwari area and had been battling severe family tensions and financial hardships. Overwhelmed by circumstances, they had come to the lake with the intention of ending their lives.

What followed was a crucial moment.

The officers counselled them patiently, offering reassurance, empathy, and hope, convincing them .that their situation, however difficult, was not beyond resolution.

After ensuring they were out of immediate danger, police contacted their family members and called them to the spot. The emotional reunion that followed marked a turning point.

Since the incident fell under the jurisdiction of Ambazari Police Station, both women were later handed over to local authorities for further support and necessary procedures.

This incident is a reminder that policing is not always about chasing criminals, sometimes, it’s about saving lives quietly, patiently, and with empathy.

At a time when the two women felt there was no way forward, a timely response and a few reassuring words became the difference between life and tragedy.

It also underlines an important message: In moments of despair, reaching out for help can change everything, and sometimes, help arrives just in time.
