Bird Flu Confirmed at Seminary Hills Hatchery, Officials Ordered for Urgent Action

Nagpur: A bird flu outbreak was confirmed late Monday evening at the Central Hatchery in Seminary Hills after nearly 800 to 1,000 birds died. The CSIR-National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) laboratory in Bhopal confirmed the presence of the infection, prompting immediate containment measures and administrative action.

Following the confirmation, several assistant commissioners and livestock development officers were directed over phone to immediately report to the Central Hatchery at Seminary Hills in Nagpur to supervise the scientific disposal of poultry birds. However, sources indicated that some officials allegedly switched off their phones or failed to report for duty during the emergency.

In response to the outbreak, the Nagpur District Collector issued an official notification to enforce strict containment measures. Authorities have warned that any negligence or dereliction of duty during this emergency will invite disciplinary action under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act.

The Regional Joint Commissioner of Animal Husbandry has directed officials to submit proposals recommending action against those found negligent. All concerned officers have been instructed to strictly comply with orders issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, Nagpur. Authorities have warned that failure to follow the directives will result in the names of erring officials being forwarded to the District Collector for further disciplinary action.
