NagpurOn 21 February 2026 at around 8:30 PM, leakage repair work was being carried out by the OCW team at Ishwar Nagar Chowk under Nehru Nagar Zone. During the ongoing repair activity, the concerned Engineer visited the site as asked by Corporator Divya Durde.
During the visit, Rakesh, a party worker associated with Corporator Divya Durde, physically assaulted OCW Network Engineer Abhishek Sahare at the leakage repair site in the presence of the Corporator. It is important to note that Sahare did not retaliate in any manner during the incident.
Following the occurrence, an FIR has been lodged at the local Police Station against the concerned individual.
Such repair works are crucial, as any delay in attending to leakages may lead to contamination in the water supply network and create serious public health concerns for citizens, similar to the situation that recently arose in Mankapur Zone.
It may be recalled that a similar incident had taken place a few months ago in Dhantoli Zone, wherein a Network Engineer visiting the area for disconnection of illegal water connections was forcibly detained while performing her official duties.
Such repeated incidents are creating a challenging and unsafe working environment for the OCW team engaged in essential public service delivery and infrastructure maintenance works.
OCW strongly condemns such acts of violence against its personnel and appeals for cooperation from NMC & local police authorities to ensure the safety and security of field staff engaged in critical civic services.
