Nagpur: Safety concerns surrounding late-night parties in the city have resurfaced after a scuffle broke out during a Valentine’s Day celebration at Raasta, a pub located in Shivaji Nagar under the jurisdiction of Ambazari Police Station.

According to sources, what reportedly began as a minor dispute between two groups escalated into a physical altercation inside the premises. A video of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, shows chaos unfolding on the dance floor while the DJ continued playing music, drawing sharp reactions from citizens online.

The incident did not initially come to light through a police complaint. Officials confirmed that no party approached the police station immediately after the altercation. However, after the video reached senior officers of Nagpur Police, the matter was taken seriously.

DCP Zone 2 Nityanand Jha said police have taken cognisance of the viral footage and initiated suo motu action. A notice has been issued to the management of Raasta seeking an explanation for failing to promptly inform the police about the incident, as required under legal provisions.

Jha added that the matter is under investigation and appropriate action will follow based on findings. Authorities are also examining whether there were any lapses in crowd management or compliance with safety norms.

The development has drawn comparisons with earlier action taken against Dabo – The Club and Kitchen, which was sealed for 45 days following alleged violations during late-night operations.

The latest episode has once again intensified debate over monitoring of nightlife establishments in Nagpur. It also comes in the backdrop of a previous violent incident on Wardha Road, where a minor altercation during a festive gathering escalated into a double murder, prompting renewed scrutiny of security arrangements and regulatory enforcement at late-night venues.
