7,410 TB patients registered in 2025

According to official data, during the period January 2025 to December 2025, a total of 7,410 TB patients were successfully registered in Nagpur city, achieving 99.46% of the set target, a milestone described by officials as encouraging progress toward TB elimination.

Under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP), 4,81,458 individuals in Nagpur have been identified as belonging to the high-risk population category.

Out of these:

• 4,46,271 individuals (93%) have been registered on the government’s Ni-Kshay portal.

• 1,03,702 high-risk individuals underwent X-ray screening.

• 14,467 individuals were tested through NAAT (Nucleic Acid Amplification Test), an advanced diagnostic method enabling early detection and timely treatment.

Officials said these proactive screening measures have significantly strengthened early diagnosis efforts.

Strict monitoring and directives

NMC Additional Commissioner Vasumana Pant has directed concerned officials to ensure maximum registration of TB patients to meet elimination targets within stipulated timelines. Medical Health Officer Dr. Deepak Selokar urged citizens to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest government health centre if they experience symptoms such as:

• Persistent cough

• Fever

• Weight loss

• Night sweats

• Fatigue

• Chest pain

He stressed that patients must complete the full course of treatment without interruption, warning that discontinuing medicines midway can worsen the disease and lead to drug resistance.

Dr. Selokar also cautioned that individuals suffering from malnutrition, diabetes, or those consuming tobacco and alcohol are at higher risk of developing TB and should take extra precautions.

Call for community support and nutrition aid

TB Specialist Dr. Shilpa Jichkar emphasized that with timely diagnosis and complete treatment, TB is fully curable. She appealed to NGOs, public representatives, political leaders, and government officials to come forward in providing nutritional support to TB patients during their treatment period.

Officials believe that ensuring 100% nutritional assistance to patients will significantly contribute toward achieving the goal of a TB-free Nagpur.

The Health Department has appealed to citizens to shed misconceptions surrounding tuberculosis, come forward for testing and treatment, and actively participate in the broader mission of building a TB-Free Nagpur and TB-Free India.
