
Nagpur: An elderly man was allegedly robbed of Rs 1 lakh by an unidentified thief inside a bank premises in the Imamwada Police Station limits on Thursday, February 6.
According to police, the complainant, Paras Mahajan Ram (68), a resident of Plot No. 08, Balaji Nagar, Ajni, had visited the State Bank of India (SBI) branch at Medical Square around 11 am to withdraw cash. He withdrew Rs 1,00,000 through a cheque and kept the cash in his bag.
After the withdrawal, the complainant stood in a queue near the passbook printing machine to update his passbook. When the printing was completed and he attempted to place the passbook back into his bag, he noticed that the bottom of the bag was torn. On checking, he found that the cash amount of Rs 1 lakh was missing.
Police said that an unknown thief took advantage of the situation and stealthily removed the cash from the complainant’s bag without his notice before fleeing the spot.
Based on the complaint lodged by the victim, a case has been registered at Imamwada police station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against an unknown accused. The offence has been recorded by Woman API Chandapure.
Further investigation is underway and police are working to trace the accused.
