Nagpur: The first special meeting of all newly elected members of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will be held on Friday, February 6, at 11 am at the Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium in Reshimbagh.
During the special general body meeting, elections will be conducted for the posts of Mayor (reserved for women) and Deputy Mayor. In addition, 16 members of the Standing Committee will be appointed.
The notice convening the special meeting has been issued to the newly elected Corporators by Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari. District Collector Dr Vipin Itankar will preside over the meeting as the Presiding Officer.
For the post of Mayor, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Corporator Neeta Thakre, while the Congress has nominated Corporator Snehal Thakre. For the Deputy Mayor’s post, BJP Corporator Leela Hathibed has filed her nomination, while Congress Corporator Vivek Nikose is contesting from the Opposition side.
After the commencement of the special meeting, the Presiding Officer will scrutinise the nomination papers. A 15-minute window will then be provided for withdrawal of nominations.
Meanwhile, NMC Corporation Secretary Dr Ranjana Lade has appealed to all newly elected members to carry the official election notice issued by the Election Department along with a photocopy of their election certificate while attending the meeting.
