
Nagpur: Tehsil Police have arrested two persons in connection with the brutal murder of an unidentified man who was found critically injured near Ram Jhula earlier this month. The crime, triggered by a trivial dispute, has exposed yet another instance of senseless violence in Nagpur.
According to police, the incident occurred before 11 am on January 21, 2026, beneath the iron staircase used to descend from Ram Jhula, near Star Garage in the Tehsil area of Nagpur. An unidentified man, aged between 30 and 35 years, was found lying in a pool of blood in an unconscious state after being assaulted with cement blocks on his head and face, allegedly with the intention to kill.
The injured man was immediately shifted to Mayo Hospital, where doctors examined him and declared him dead on arrival. Based on a complaint lodged by Umar Khan Mubarak Ali Khan (36), a resident of Mominpura, Tahsil, the police registered a case of murder against unknown persons under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Tehsil Police Station.
As the deceased remained unidentified, Tahsil Police formed four special teams to establish his identity and crack the case. During the course of technical and field investigation, police gathered credible inputs and succeeded in tracing the accused.
The police arrested Santaram Sahedlal Yadav (32), a resident of Kondhali Khurde (Chhoti Kondhali), Umred taluka, originally from Chhindwara district in Madhya Pradesh, from Itwari Railway Station, Nagpur. Another accused, Raghunath alias Raja Shuddhodhan Sonawane (Vishwakarma) (35), a resident of Lamta in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh, was arrested from Bhilgaon, Nagpur.
A third accused, Anil Waghate alias Totla, aged between 30 and 35 years, is currently absconding, and a search operation is underway to nab him.
During interrogation, the arrested accused confessed that they, along with the deceased and the absconding accomplice, had consumed alcohol before reaching the spot. An argument reportedly broke out over the deceased not giving a bottle of water, following which all three accused jointly assaulted the victim with cement blocks, leading to his death.
The arrested accused have been produced before the court, which has granted police custody for further investigation. Police said efforts are on to trace the absconding accused and to establish the identity of the deceased, while further investigation in the case is ongoing.
