Nagpur: A shocking case of “Gangs of Wasseypur-style” extortion and death threats has surfaced at Nagpur Railway Station, where workers employed by contractor firm ISF Services were allegedly forced to return half their salaries as protection money.
According to workers, local goons identified as Santosh Arkhel, Shubham Arkhel, Rishabh Arkhel, Shahbaaz Khan and Atendra Singh were demanding 50% of their wages, and threatening to break their limbs or even kill them if they refused. Workers were allegedly summoned to isolated railway-side areas and intimidated with brutal assault and murder threats.
The continuous harassment left workers and their families living in fear. Several women workers approached Shiv Sena Nagpur chief Nitin Tiwari, narrating how the extortion racket had pushed them to a breaking point.
The matter soon reached MLC Anil Parab, who instructed GRP SP Mangesh Shinde to initiate immediate action. Following this, Tiwari led a massive protest, with hundreds of victims gheraoing the GRP police station and demanding FIRs against the Arkhel brothers and those linked to the contractor company.
Considering the evidence submitted by the workers, the GRP launched an inquiry, summoned the contractor for questioning, and issued strict orders barring the accused goons from entering the station premises.
Further action is expected as the investigation progresses.
