Nagpur: In a statement that has set political circles abuzz, Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has advised the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) to draw lessons from the Congress party’s recent resurgence at the national level.
Speaking on the current political landscape of Maharashtra during Winter Session in Nagpur, Sarnaik drew a sharp parallel between the opposition’s situation in the State and the Congress party’s trajectory in the Lok Sabha. He pointed out that initially, the Congress did not possess the requisite numerical strength to claim the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) post at the Centre. However, through persistent effort and continuous groundwork, the party managed to secure the necessary numbers.
Sarnaik suggested that the Maha Vikas Aghadi needs to display similar perseverance in Maharashtra. “Only if the MVA puts in the same level of hard work can they hope for a change in power (regime change) or effectively establish themselves as a strong opposition force in the State,” Sarnaik remarked.
The Minister’s comments came specifically in the context of discussions regarding the Leader of the Opposition post. By highlighting the Congress model, Sarnaik implied that numbers and political relevance are not handed out but earned through consistent struggle.
The statement is viewed as significant coming from a minister in the ruling coalition. It has sparked widespread discussion across the state’s political spectrum, with analysts interpreting it as both a critique of the MVA’s current strategy and a candid acknowledgment of the effort required to build a formidable opposition.
