Nagpur: The Winter Session of the Maharashtra Legislature began on a stormy note in Nagpur on Monday, as Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and MLA Aditya Thackeray launched a sharp and direct assault on the ruling government during the opening proceedings. His aggressive remarks triggered loud sloganeering from the Opposition benches, creating high political drama on the very first day.

Thackeray cornered the ruling alliance on a range of issues, from governance failures to lack of transparency, accusing the government of neglecting critical concerns affecting citizens. “Unemployment, rising inflation, farmer distress, and deteriorating law and order are escalating every day, yet the government has taken no concrete action,” he charged.

He questioned the transparency behind several key decisions affecting Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra, alleging that important policy moves were being taken “secretly and without public accountability.” Thackeray demanded that the Winter Session should not become a mere formality but instead address people’s real concerns.

Raising doubts over major infrastructure and development projects linked to Mumbai, he asked who truly benefits from these decisions and whether ordinary citizens will see any real gains.

Opposition legislators enthusiastically supported Thackeray’s speech, erupting in slogans to corner the government, while Treasury bench members appeared prepared to respond with equal intensity. The heated exchanges signalled that the session may witness sharp confrontations in the coming days.

The Winter Session in Nagpur is considered crucial in the state’s political landscape, and all eyes are now on how the government handles contentious issues amid intensifying attacks from the Opposition.
