Four robberies in a single day

On November 9, the gang targeted citizens in Tehsil, Jaripatka, Hudkeshwar and Dhantoli by impersonating policemen. Claiming they needed to conduct ‘security checks’ or ‘investigations’, they stopped people on the road and instructed them to remove their jewellery and hand it over temporarily. Within moments, the accused fled with valuables worth several lakhs, triggering panic among the police force and public.

As police compiled details from all four incidents, suspicion immediately turned towards the Irani gang. Technical surveillance, including mobile location tracking, CCTV footage, and other evidence, indicated that the accused had escaped to Beed. Acting swiftly, the Tehsil Police conducted a raid and arrested Baghar Mehmood Ali.

Resistance during arrest; officer injured

During the arrest, the accused’s family attempted to obstruct the police and engaged in physical resistance. In the scuffle, one police officer sustained injuries. Despite the resistance, the police successfully detained Ali and brought him to Nagpur.

The accused has been remanded to judicial custody, which has delayed detailed interrogation. Police are now preparing to seek his custodial remand to extract information about other gang members, their hideouts, and details of the stolen jewellery.

According to police, the remaining members of the gang are likely hiding in or around Nagpur. All police stations have been put on high alert, and officials are confident of nabbing the entire gang soon.

Further investigation is underway.
