
Nagpur: A 26-year-old pedestrian was killed on the spot in a hit-and-run accident near the Government Polytechnic College under the Sadar Police Station limits on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred between 2:30 pm and 3:00 pm near the Sadar Flyover.
The deceased has been identified as Lalu Shravan Rajvanshi, a resident of Sapaiyya, Akbarpur, Manail, Lodhipura, Navada (Bihar). According to police, Rajvanshi was walking towards his destination when a speeding truck (MH 31 CQ 9098) allegedly driven recklessly, rammed into him. The impact proved fatal, and he died on the spot. The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.
Acting on a tip-off from an informer, Sadar Police traced and detained the absconding truck driver, identified as Rakesh Mangalunath Chavan (40), a resident of Lal Jhanda Chowk, Yashodharanagar, staying on rent at Meshram’s house in Nagpur.
Based on a complaint filed by Woman API Shubhangi Patil, an FIR has been registered against the accused under Sections 281, 106(1) of the BNS, along with Sections 134 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The accused has been placed under arrest, and further investigation is underway.
