Nagpur: A woman died and four others sustained injuries after an unknown speeding truck rammed into a Bolero on the Outer Ring Road near Prerna School under Hudkeshwar police limits on Sunday evening. Police have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver for causing a fatal accident through rash and negligent driving.
According to the complaint filed by Mayur Shandile (28), a resident of Dakara, Kotarna (Saoner), he works as a driver at WCL Sub Area, Saoner, and was driving a Bolero (MH-49 AT-2223) when the accident occurred. On November 30, around 6.15 pm, he was travelling to Umred for a programme along with WCL employee Anil Kumar Singh (52), his wife Rubydev Singh (44), and another couple—Gaurav Pandey (50) and Rashi Pandey (42) of Patansaongi.
As the group approached the flyover near Prerna School, Singh instructed the driver to take the service road toward Umred. While Shandile slowed down the vehicle to take a U-turn, a speeding unidentified truck coming from the Samruddhi Expressway towards Jabalpur crashed into the Bolero from behind and fled the scene.
All occupants suffered injuries. Locals rushed the critically injured Anil Singh and his wife Rubydev Singh to Government Medical Hospital, where doctors declared Rubydev Singh dead during treatment. The Pandey couple, both seriously injured, is undergoing treatment at New Era Hospital, Lakadganj. The complainant Shandile is also receiving medical care.
Based on the complaint, API Khedikar of Hudkeshwar Police registered an offense under BNS Sections 279, 304A, 337, 338 and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Sections 134, 184, and 187. The search for the absconding truck driver is underway.
