Nagpur: A well-known college in the city, already reeling from recent molestation allegations by two women professors, has been hit by another scandal. This time, an assistant professor from the Commerce faculty was allegedly beaten inside the campus by the parents and relatives of a girl student after he reportedly sent her obscene WhatsApp messages.

According to information emerging from the college, the student informed her family about receiving sexually inappropriate and persistent messages from the professor. Furious, the relatives rushed to the campus, confronted the administration, and demanded immediate action. Instead, they claim they were met with evasive responses. The principal, who was attending a Constitution Day event at the time, allegedly failed to act even after multiple requests from the family.

The professor, appointed in 2023, is said to be closely linked to the personal assistant of the college chairman- a figure who has previously faced harassment accusations. This connection, sources say, has created an atmosphere where attempts to shield the accused are not uncommon.

Former students disclosed that the same professor had been accused of similar behaviour at his previous institution, leading to his dismissal. Despite that history, he allegedly secured his current post through a compromised recruitment process involving money, according to campus sources.

Instead of addressing the concerns raised by the student’s family, the administration allegedly tried to deflect the situation by citing police action against the complainants. Relatives say the college was more concerned about protecting its image than safeguarding students.

When approached for comment, the principal dismissed the matter as a “personal issue” and refused to elaborate, further fuelling anger among parents and students.

A pattern raising serious concerns

With multiple allegations surfacing in a short span, students, parents, and activists say trust in the institution is wearing thin. They argue that misconduct of this kind undermines the basic principles of education and cannot be brushed aside.

Activists are now demanding immediate suspension of the accused professor, a transparent inquiry, and strict accountability from the college management. Many warn that continued inaction will only deepen the crisis of confidence in institutions entrusted with the safety and future of young students.
