Nagpur: Meditrina Hospital on Central Bazaar Road has landed in serious legal trouble after Sitabuldi police registered a criminal case over large-scale unauthorized construction. The action has been taken against Dr. Sameer Paltewar, CMD of VRG Health Care Pvt. Ltd., which operates the hospital.
According to the complaint filed by NMC junior engineer Arun Pethewar, the hospital violated its approved building plan and carried out illegal structural changes. A spot inspection by the municipal zone office revealed that the ground-floor common area had been encroached upon by setting up an oxygen plant and storage space. On the seventh floor—where a terrace was originally sanctioned—officials found 421 sq. meters of unauthorized construction, including a pantry, conference hall, dispensing area, and laboratory.
The municipal corporation had issued a notice in April 2024 directing the hospital to remove the illegal construction. With no corrective action taken, the matter was escalated to the police. A case has been registered under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, and Sections 52 and 53 of the MRTP Act.
The investigation is underway under the supervision of Sitabuldi Police Station in-charge Inspector Vitthal Singh Rajput. The development has sparked strong reactions across the city’s healthcare sector, raising concerns about regulatory compliance and safety.
This incident ties into the broader conversation about how rapidly expanding urban healthcare infrastructure often brushes up against legal and civic boundaries.
