Pune: With the upcoming local body elections in Maharashtra, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its poll preparations by launching an extensive survey across all districts. The findings of this survey will play a decisive role in finalizing candidates.

Addressing the media after a party office-bearers’ meeting held in Pune on Wednesday, Revenue Minister and BJP’s election in-charge Chandrashekhar Bawankule said, “There are many aspirants in the BJP, but tickets will be given only to those who have earned people’s trust and have genuinely worked for the public. While distributing tickets, three factors will be crucial, public satisfaction, the candidate’s image among workers, and the survey outcome.”

Bawankule further expressed confidence that the Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction), would secure over 51% of votes in the forthcoming local body polls. “We recently held a coordination committee meeting with NCP State President Sunil Tatkare, and Shiv Sena leaders Uday Samant and Shambhuraje Desai. Candidates in each constituency will be selected only after an on-ground reality survey,” he added.

The BJP’s move is seen as a step toward ensuring a disciplined and people-centric candidate selection process, sending a strong message of internal accountability. Political observers view this strategy as a significant development ahead of the state’s local self-government elections.
