Nagpur: The Sitabuldi police have registered yet another cheating case against Dr. Sameer Paltewar and his wife Dr. Sonali Paltewar, directors of Meditrina Hospital, for allegedly obtaining a bank loan of Rs 9 crore using forged documents in the hospital’s name. The fresh case was filed following a complaint by Ganesh Chakkarwar, a partner and director in the hospital.
This is reportedly the third criminal case lodged against the Paltewar couple in the past two months. Earlier, they were accused of irregularities amounting to crores of rupees in the billing of patients treated under government health schemes.
According to the complaint, VRG Healthcare Company was originally founded jointly by Chakkarwar, the Paltewar couple, and other partners. In 2016, the other partners sold their shares and exited the company, leaving Chakkarwar and Paltewar with an equal 50–50 percent shareholding.
Later, when Dr. Paltewar proposed the construction of a new building adjacent to the hospital, he allegedly convinced Chakkarwar to transfer an additional 17 percent of his shares, claiming it was necessary for obtaining approval for expansion. This raised the Paltewar couple’s shareholding to 67 percent.
Some months ago, Chakkarwar discovered financial discrepancies and initiated inquiries at the HDFC Bank branch in Ramdaspeth. He was shocked to learn that the Paltewars had allegedly secured a loan of Rs 9 crore in the hospital’s name without his knowledge.
The couple had reportedly submitted forged board meeting resolutions dated March 31, 2019, and December 8, 2023, to the bank to obtain the loan. Investigations revealed that no such meetings were held and that the documents were fabricated to mislead the bank.
The Sitabuldi police have booked Dr. Sameer and Dr. Sonali Paltewar under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy. Further investigation is underway to determine how the loan was sanctioned and whether any other individuals were involved.
Police sources confirmed that this is not the first time the couple has been accused of financial malpractice. Previous cases relating to hospital billing fraud under government schemes are already under investigation.
