Nagpur: In a swift breakthrough, Kondhali Police of Nagpur Rural have arrested two youths from Wardha district involved in a daring chain-snatching incident that took place on October 19, 2025. The police have also recovered stolen property worth Rs 1.65 lakh, including gold ornaments and the motorcycle used in the crime.
According to reports, complainant Pironabai Kothiram Salam, a resident of Govindpanjra, Bazargaon, was standing at the Govindpanjra bus stand waiting to travel out of town when two unidentified men approached her on a motorcycle. They asked her for directions to Amravati Road. While she was showing them the way, the pillion rider suddenly snatched the 4-gram gold chain worth Rs 30,000 from her neck and fled from the spot.
Following her complaint, an offence was registered at Kondhali Police Station. After the case was registered, under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Harsh Poddar, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) launched a probe using technical evidence, CCTV footage, and cyber-tracking assistance. The investigation led to the identification of the accused as Rupesh Vinod Rathod (18), resident of Masada Akoli, Selu, District Wardha, and Vijay Rangalal Gundi (18), resident of the same village.
Acting on a tip-off, police detained Rupesh Rathod from Selu and Vijay Gundi from Besa, Nagpur. During interrogation, both confessed to committing the Kondhali chain-snatching crime.
Further interrogation revealed that the duo was also involved in similar offences registered at Pulgaon Police Station (Crime No. 811/25) and Dahegaon Police Station (Crime No. 819/25), both under Wardha district.
The police recovered gold ornaments and a motorcycle collectively valued at Rs 1.65 lakh from their possession.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of SP Harsh Poddar and Additional SP Anil Mhaske, led by PI Omprakash Kokate of the Local Crime Branch. The team included API Sagar Gomase, HC Iqbal Shaikh, HC Shailesh Yadav, PC Rakesh Talewar, driver Vinod, and Cyber Cell staff HC Satish Rathod, WPC Mrunal Raut, and WPC Sangita Gawande.
Further investigation in the case is underway at Kondhali Police Station.
