Nagpur: A major mishap was averted on Friday evening when an Air India flight from Nagpur to Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing shortly after take-off due to a suspected bird strike.
According to airport officials, flight AI-466 took off from Nagpur Airport at around 6:38 pm. Moments after take-off, the pilot detected unusual vibrations in one of the engines and suspected that a bird had hit the aircraft. Acting promptly, the pilot decided to return to Nagpur and informed Air Traffic Control (ATC).
The aircraft, carrying 170 passengers, remained airborne for some time before safely landing back at Nagpur Airport. The sudden jolt caused panic among passengers, but no injuries were reported. After landing, engineers immediately began inspecting the aircraft while passengers stayed on board for nearly an hour.
Later, the airline refunded the full ticket amount to all passengers as a precautionary measure and assured that alternative travel arrangements were being made.
Airport authorities have initiated an inspection of the runway area to prevent similar incidents in the future.
