Nagpur: In a major crackdown against illegal sale and storage of banned tobacco products, the Social Security Unit of the Nagpur Police conducted a raid in Jaripatka and recovered a significant stock of banned flavoured tobacco and pan masala.
Around 2:30 pm on Friday, acting on reliable intelligence, the police team conducted a raid at Paragon godown located near Chawla Chowk on Janata Hospital Road, Jaripatka. The operation uncovered a large quantity of various types of flavoured tobacco and pan masala, which are banned under government regulations.
The godown was owned by Ishwar Panjumal Budrani, 44, resident of Nandalal Apartment, Hardasani Galli, Jaripatka, Nagpur. The accused was found storing these items illegally with the intention of selling them for personal financial gain. The total value of the seized goods is estimated at Rs. 1.25 lakh.
Following a complaint lodged by the Food Safety Officer, a case was registered at Jaripatka Police Station under Sections 123, 223, 274, 275 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 26(2)(i), 26(2)(iv), 27(3)(e), 3(1) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Rahul Maknikar, and Assistant Police Commissioner (Crime Branch) Abhijeet Patil, with Assistant Police Inspector Shivaji Nannaware and his team executing the raid.
Authorities emphasized that such actions are part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal trade of prohibited substances in Nagpur.
