IIM Nagpur Hosts Global Summit to Shape India’s Future Workforce Ask ChatGPT

 

Nagpur, July 24, 2025 – The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur organized the Viksit Bharat 2047: Global Perspective Conference, a premier thought leadership summit aimed at redefining India’s global development roadmap. The event brought together renowned international trade experts, industry veterans, and academic leaders to deliberate on emerging skill demands, global talent mobility, and cross-border partnerships crucial for India’s transformation into a developed nation by 2047.

IIM Nagpur Director Prof. Bhimaraya Metri, in his inaugural address, emphasized the critical role of skilling, innovation, and international cooperation in shaping India’s Viksit Bharat vision. He also highlighted IIM Nagpur’s contributions to government-led initiatives like Maharashtra’s TUCS project and announced plans to introduce foreign language programs—including Japanese, Korean, and Spanish—to prepare students for global careers. “From Nagpur to India, and India to the world,” he said, envisioning the city as a future hub for exports, international talent, and foreign investments.

Chief Guest Shri Ajay Sancheti, former Member of Parliament and industrialist, commended India’s rise as a global growth engine. Reflecting on his early professional years in Singapore, he underscored the significance of international collaboration and inclusive development. He applauded IIM Nagpur’s growing reputation and its success in securing global placements, urging students to contribute to rural and national progress, beyond just urban growth.

Mr. Takashi Suzuki, Chief Director General, JETRO, spotlighted Indo-Japanese cooperation and stressed the importance of linking Japanese MSMEs with Indian talent. He praised IIM Nagpur’s role in enabling such collaborations, especially in emerging cities like Nagpur. “With 99% of Japanese businesses being MSMEs, Nagpur must be more visible on Japan’s business radar,” he stated, encouraging students to contribute to Japan’s evolving industry ecosystem.

Mr. Vik Singh, Australian Trade & Investment Commissioner, laid out a strategic roadmap for the India-Australia partnership in key sectors such as agribusiness, green energy, and advanced manufacturing. “The goal is not to compete, but to co-create—Australia and India partnering to serve the world,” he said. He also encouraged Indian students to explore Australia’s TAFE skill system and commended IIM Nagpur’s global mindset.

Mr. Mussarat, HR Head at Suzuki R&D and former DPIIT official, discussed India’s leadership in manufacturing, especially in tractor and passenger vehicle production. He called India’s youth and educational institutions its greatest strength, and applauded IIM Nagpur for nurturing globally competitive talent for R&D and global capability centers.

Mr. Sukant Mishra, Managing Director of Octagon International (UAE), announced two global job offers in Dubai for IIM Nagpur’s MBA batch of 2024–2026, along with plans to recruit interns from the 2025–2027 batch. He praised the institute’s global engagement and commitment to building industry-ready professionals.

Engaging Panel Discussions

The event featured four dynamic panel discussions:

  • Japan Session (moderated by Prof. Rahul Sett) focused on MSME talent needs, featuring Mr. Takashi Suzuki (JETRO), Mr. Siddhanti Sagar (University of Tokyo), Mr. Gopal (HR Head – HORIBA India), and Mr. Mussarat (Suzuki R&D).

  • Asia-Pacific Session (moderated by Prof. Devashish Rath) included Mr. Vik Singh, Mr. Atul Garg (CEO – SingX, Singapore), Dr. Deepika Deshpande (COO – SingX), and Mr. Asim Afsar (Hansgrohe Group).

  • Europe & America Session (moderated by Prof. Ankita Dash) featured Mr. Rohit Purandare (DGM – Mercedes-Benz R&D) and Mr. Sachin Deshmukh (CEO & MD – Softdel USA).

  • UAE Session (moderated by Prof. Deepaghrah) featured Mr. Sumit Jain (CEO – Valency International) and Mr. Sukant Mishra (Octagon International, UAE).

Key academic leaders, including Prof. Prashant Gupta (Dean – Faculty & Academics), Prof. Alok Kumar Singh (Dean – Executive Education), Prof. Shailendra Nigam (Chairperson – CDS Committee), and Dr. Rahul Chaturvedi (In-Charge – Career Development Services), played an active role throughout the conference.
