Justice Nitin Sambre transferred to Delhi High Court

Nagpur: Justice Nitin Sambre, who was serving as the Administrative Judge at the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, has been transferred to the Delhi High Court. The transfer was approved by President of India Droupadi Murmu after consulting with the Chief Justice of India Bhushan Gavai.

The Ministry of Law and Justice issued an official notification regarding this decision. Justice Sambre has been directed to take charge at the Delhi High Court soon. His appointment has been welcomed by the legal community and citizens.

Justice Sambre began his legal career in 1989. He practiced law at all three benches of the Bombay High Court, Mumbai, Aurangabad, and Nagpur. He was appointed as a judge of the Bombay High Court in 2014 and served on the Nagpur bench for many years. During his time as a judge, he handled many important cases related to criminal law, civil law and constitutional issues. He is known for his clear and detailed judgements, legal knowledge and social awareness. He made strong contributions in cases related to corruption, environmental protection and women’s rights. His firm stance on transparency and accountability in Government departments was especially appreciated.

Justice Sambre was born on December 19, 1967, in Nagpur. He completed his education at Somalwar High School and Shivaji Science College. He earned his law degree from University College of Law, Nagpur, in 1992. He began his legal career under Senior Advocate Sharad A Bobde, who later became the 47th Chief Justice of India. Justice Sambre practiced mainly in civil, criminal, and writ matters. He also held key positions in the legal community, including Secretary of the High Court Bar Association at Nagpur from 2004 to 2007.

He represented the Governor of Maharashtra in court and served as Government Pleader and Public Prosecutor. He was also counsel for several public and private organisations like Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil Corporation, Tata Sons, and Godrej. Justice Sambre is also known for his involvement in sports and student leadership during his college years. He represented Maharashtra in national sports tournaments and was President of the Students’ Union at his law college in 1991. His transfer to Delhi is seen as a recognition of his dedication and service to the judiciary.

HCBA Nagpur President Adv Atul Pande stated that Justice Sambre is a resident of Nagpur and is well aware of the suffering faced by the people of Nagpur and Vidarbha. Several public issues, including the Ambazari matter, Katol Road, and Dhantoli traffic problems, were resolved during the hearing of PILs under Justice Sambre. As an administrative judge, he was instrumental in addressing people-centric issues and held the executive authorities accountable. He was truly helpful to Vidarbha, Adv Pande said.
