MKM Kho-Kho Premier League: Maharashtra Strikers win title

Nagpur: Maharashtra Strikers emerged champions in the Pre Maharashtra Krida Mandal (MKM) Kho-Kho Premier League that concluded at the grounds of New English High School, Congress Nagar, recently.

In the final, Maharashtra Strikers defeated Maharashtra Blasters to win the title. MKM had organised the four-team league which competed in a super league format. The other participating teams were Maharashtra Eagles and Maharashtra Lions. A total of 72 boys and girls participated in the tournament.

Based on individual performance, Aditya Sonkusare was named the Best Defender and Piyush Rathod was adjudged the Best Attacker. Chetan Donadkar was awarded the Best Player of the entire tournament. Prize distribution ceremony of the tourney was combined with the closing ceremony of the summer sports camp that was also organised by Maharashtra Krida Mandal.

Madhav Urade, Secretary, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Lok Kalyan Samiti, Vidarbha Province was the chief guest. Piyush Chiwande, Deputy Collector, SDM, Katol presided over. Former national kho-kho player Ashfaq Sheikh was present as the special guest. A total of 105 players participated in the 20-day multi-sports camp and they received training in kho-kho, atya patya volleyball, football, yoga and meditation.

Each player was given a participation certificate while Samaya Agarwal walked away with the Best Camper award. The programme was conducted by Vaibhav Kumre. The introductory speech was given by secretary of the mandal Dr Padmakar Charmode. Swanandi Shinde proposed a vote of thanks.

On this occasion, the Executive Chairman of the Mandal Dr Vijay Datarkar, other executive members, senior members, and parents were present. Sahil Nagpure, Saurabh Dubey, Prem Rakhde, Praveen Wahale, Chetan Donadkar, Vansh Shende, Piyush Rathod, Prinesh Shrivastava, Preshit Wahale and other senior players put in special efforts working overtime to make this competition a big success.
