Nagpur: The courage shown by the family of Kishor Tijare, a Head Constable, in deciding to donate his organs will give new lease of life to three persons. Tijare, Head Constable with Police Headquarters at Nagpur was declared brain dead by the doctors after he sustained head injuries, recently.
Kishor (45) is survived by wife Sapna, who also works in the Police Department, three children –Khushi (12),Himanshi (10) and Mitansh (7).
On duty, Kishor Tijare was going to Gittikhadan Chowk on a two-wheeler for some important work. He met with an accident at around 7.30 pm. He was admitted to New Era Hospital as he suffered severe head injuries. During treatment doctors found that survival of the patient was difficult so the Brain Dead Committee at the hospital, including Dr Nilesh Agrawal, Dr Parag Moon, Dr Vivek Deshpande and Dr Amol Kokas, declared him brain dead.
Later, family of the patient was counselled for organ donations. After getting the consent of the family, Kishor’s vital organs including kidneys, liver and cornea were donated. This information was given to the Divisional Transplant Coordination Centre at Nagpur. The Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC) with President DrSanjay Kolte, Secretary Dr Rahul Saxena, Transplant Coordinator-Dinesh Mandape swung into action to find the recipients.
Dinesh Mandpe, Transplant Coordinator of Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC) checked the wait list and distributed the organs. Since logistics could not be possible within the time of retrieval, Kishor’s kidneys and cornea were donated. One kidney was donated to a 47-year old male recipient at New Era Hospital while the other was donated to a 30-year-old young man at CARE Hospital recipient. The pair of cornea was donated to Mahatme Eye Bank.
New Era Hospital staff created the Honour Corridor and paid tributes to the donor. The hospital provided free ambulance service up to Tijare’s residence at Police Headquarters, Katol Road.
