Nagpur: Babus of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) are in a fix as their salaries for the month of June have got stalled. Neither officers nor other employees of NMC have received their salaries for the month of June.
As per rules and tradition, salaries are credited in the employees’ accounts by the first of every month. The issue has been flagged by Adv Dharampal Meshram, President, Nagpur Municipal Corporation Employees Association. He has written to Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Abhijeet Chaudhary about the delay in the payment of salaries.
Meshram said that the delay in salaries has affected the employees in Class III and IV the most. One can understand that the NMC Accounts Department might have faced some issues, but now it is July 19 and such inordinate delay is quite surprising. Even contractual employees are suffering due to non receipt of their salaries.
The rules further stipulate that the muster rolls for payment of salaries must be done before the 25th of every month. Accordingly, as per the instructions of the Commissioner, the Chief Accounts and Finance Officer (CAFO) issues a circular directing Heads of Departments to submit the muster as the same is needed to be uploaded in the new system, the Finance Account System (FAS). But, even after this, the delay in the salaries of the employees is simply inexcusable, Meshram said.
After the salary of May was deposited in the accounts of the employees in time, the employees were expecting that the salary of other months would also be done on similar lines. Meshram warned that if the salary is not deposited immediately, the employees would be forced to start an agitation, and the civic administration will be responsible for the disruption in civic services if there is agitation.
