Maharshtra Shame : HRC steps in after 11 workers reduced after being chained & forced to work

Nagpur: A horrific incident came into light from Osmanabad after 11 labourers were rescued after they were chained and forced to work for 15 days to four months by well-known contractors in the city.

In the latest, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sent notices to the Maharashtra government and the state’s director general of police (DGP) after taking suo motu cognisance of media reports.

The commision has asked the Maharashtra chief secretary and the DGP to submit a detailed report relating to the incident within 28 days.

Furthermore, the NHRC stated that the incident indicates “failure of the local administration to safeguard the workers from such brutality committed on them by the contractors, without any fear of the law”.
