After his suspension from Congress recently for his criticism against the party high command, there was a widespread speculation that Ashish Deshmukh may join BJP. A few days ago, Devendra Fadnavis accompanied by Bawankule had visited his residence in Nagpur. Earlier, he was invited to the residence of Bawankule. There was a strong rumour that since BJP doesn’t have a suitable candidate at Saoner to contest against Sunil Kedar, the party might field Deshmukh.

In the last Assembly polls in 2019, Dr Rajiv Potdar contested from BJP against Kedar. According to highly placed sources in the BJP, the party may field Ashish Deshmukh from Katol against Anil Deshmukh. In 2014 Ashish Deshmukh had defeated Anil Deshmukh from Katol.
