Devendra Fadnavis made the alchemy of being the Chief Minister for five years in the politics of Maharashtra in the last forty years. Fadnavis started his political career from his hometown Nagpur. At that time all the responsibility of BJP in the Second Capital of the State was on the shoulders of Nitin Gadkari. Fadnavis entered the political arena considering Gadkari as his guru. However, over time, Fadnavis left Gadkari’s finger and joined with Gopinath Munde, who was his opponent in the party.

After this, in 2013, Fadnavis was replaced as the State President of BJP. After that, Fadnavis became the Chief Minister of Maharashtra in 2014. BJP became a big party under his leadership. But this turned out to be a crisis for him and his rivals in the BJP stood before him. In this, Nitin Gadkari, Pankaja Munde, Vinod Tawde, Chandrakant Patil are considered rivals of Fadnavis.
As Gadkari was given a ministerial post at the Centre, he withdrew from the politics of the state. To topple his rival leaders, Fadnavis started giving “power” to other party leaders. He fielded Girish Mahajan against Khadse. Ashish Shelar was given strength against Pankaja Munde.
A specialty of Devendra Fadnavis is that his intelligence system is stronger. Through this he plays all his ‘games’ against the opponents. Therefore, there has not been any widespread movement against him. Fadnavis has established his own strength in the state and dominated the state for a long time. Even in the current situation, he played a big game and established power in the state along with Eknath Shinde.
But the BJP high command cannot retain a single face for the post of Chief Minister for the upcoming elections. The growing strength of Fadnavis is increasing the headache of Modi-Shah. Therefore, there is a discussion in the BJP that Fadnavis’s wings will be clipped at the behest of the high command. An example of this is the Deputy Chief Minister post given to Fadnavis in Shinde-BJP alliance.
When Congress was in power, Congress had fielded Narayan Rane as an alternative face to Vilasrao Deshmukh. Narayan Rane had Sushil Kumar Shinde as his alternate face and Ashok Chavan as his alternate face. The same pattern will now be implemented by BJP. Due to this, Devendra Fadnavis is in big trouble. In this, Vinod Tawde is the first face as he is the General Secretary of BJP. Modi-Shah has given him a big responsibility. Tawde has accepted that responsibility well and has won the trust of Modi-Shah.
Also, Tawde has been given the responsibility of forming a special committee for the 2024 elections. In view of this, there is a possibility that Modi-Shah may clip the wings of Devendra Fadnavis and give the post of Chief Minister to Vinod Tawde in 2024.
