Nagpur: The last day of the year 2015 proved disastrous for a woman as she was run over by a speeding truck and crushed to death in front of her husband who had a miraculous escape. The tragedy took place on Thursday afternoon in Pachpaoli area. The driver of the killer truck fled the spot fearing angry backlash from passersby and nearby residents.
The husband-wife duo, Surendra Ramnath Umathe (39) and Ranjana Umathe (29), both residents of Vinkar Colony, Tandapeth, Navin Basti, Pachpaoli, were proceeding towards Jaripatka double seat on their two-wheeler (MH-31/DG 4284). When the couple reached near a petrol pump at Khobragade Square on Jaripatka Ring Road, a speeding truck driven by an unidentified driver hit the two-wheeler. As a result, both Surendra and Ranjana fell on the road.
Unfortunately, Ranjana came under the wheels of the truck and was crushed to death on the spot before the eyes of her husband. The driver of the truck fled the spot fearing wrath of passersby and nearby residents. On being informed, Jaripatka police reached the spot and pacified the crowd that had gathered at the spot. After completing the paper formalities the cops sent body of Ranjana to a Government hospital for post-mortem.
