‘Banks must get to the poor all benefits of social security schemes’: Gadkari

Nagpur: “Banking management must provide to the poor and socially deprived the benefits of all centrally sponsored welfare schemes in order to ensure social security,” said Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, here in the city on Saturday, Sept 5.

He said this while inaugurating a new branch of Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Somalwada area.

Speaking on the occasion, Gadkari further said, PNB has a rich history of 120 years having spread its branches across the country, and it has completed a herculean task of opening 2 lakh accounts under Prime Minister’s Dhan-Jan Yojana. He thus praised the bank and also congratulated it for opening its new branch at Somalwada.

According to him, the banks must help the poor, and here after, the role of the banks would be eradication of starvation and unemployment in the country. So, the banks must maintain their credibility among bank-customers.

He called on the poor to avail themselves of the Prime Minister’s Bima Suraksha Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana and other similar schemes specifically made for them. He informed that Prime Minister Mudra Yojana would prove very useful in terms of self-employment through skills-development scheme. He also informed, a scheme of low interest housing loan from banks for the poor would soon be launched.

On this occasion, the loans under various schemes were distributed at the hands of Gadkari. Also distributed were useful equipment to the blind and handicapped girls under bank’s social responsibility.

Prominently present on the occasion was the general manager of PNB Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat region, Vivek Jha who was special guest of the function. He gave details of various schemes of PNB.

The function was attended by members and employees of PNB as well as citizens.
