659 gm brown sugar worth Rs 26 lakh seized from woman drug peddler

Nagpur: In a major haul of narcotics, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Nagpur Crime Branch arrested a moped-borne woman in Pachpaoli area here on Monday and seized 659 gm brown sugar (raw heroin) worth over Rs 26 lakh from her possession.

The accused drug peddler has been identified as Chitra Manoj Rahangdale (30), residing behind Itwari Railway Station, opposite Shad Hospital, Shantinagar.

Police Constable Tulsidas Shukla, attached to Anti-Narcotics Cell, on Monday received secret inputs that a woman is arriving near Railway Quarter No. 189, Motibagh with narcotic stuff. Acting on the tip-off, Shukla along with a team of cops laid a trap at the said spot and waited for the woman drug peddler. Soon, the accused woman named Chitra Rahangdale arrived there on a Honda Aviator moped (MH-31/VS 3557). The waiting cops stopped her and woman police personnel frisked her moped. The cops found 659 gm of brown sugar worth over Rs 26 lakh. The cops also seized the moped, a mobile phone worth Rs 11,000, cash Rs 10,000 and 61 gm white powder from the accused. The collective value of seized stuff including the brown sugar is Rs 26.87 lakh.

An offence under Section 21(C) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act was registered against the accused Chitra Rahangdale with Pachpaoli Police Station and she was placed under arrest. Cops are interrogating the accused as to from where she got the narcotic stuff and who else were involved in drug peddling.

The task was accomplished under guidance of Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham, Joint CP Shivaji Bodkhe, DCP Detection Sambhaji Kadam, ACP (Crime) Sanjiv Kamble by ANC Senior PI Rajendra Nikam, API Chandan, PSI Swapnil Wagh, ASI Arjun Singh, constables Tulsidas Shukla, Datta Bagul, Satish Patil, woman police sepoy Rubina Sheikh and driver Naresh Shingne.
