6 coaches of Utkal express derail, 5 dead, 35 injured

Muzzafarnagar:
Five people lost their lives and thirty five got injured when six coaches of Puri-Kalinga-Haridwar Utkal express derailed in Khatauli, Muzzafarnagar on Saturday.

“Medical vans have been rushed to the site. All efforts are being taken to ensure speedy relief and rescue operations,” railway minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted.

The local district administration officials have rushed to the accident site and the NDRF teams have been mobilized to conduct rescue operation. However, no official statement has been given about the number of deaths as of now.

The Railways has also issued to two helpline numbers for kin of passengers for inquiry: 9760534054/5051.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reported to be monitoring the situation. The PMO is expected to be briefed shortly by the Railway Minister.
