5 including one year old killed as bus catches fire near Talegaon in Wardha; 10 injured

Five people were killed and ten other injured when a private bus caught fire near Talegaon in Maharashtra’s Wardha district this morning. One year old infant was also among the dead.

The bus, which belonged to Nagpur-based Baba Travels, was engulfed into flames when most of the passengers were in slumber early morning. There were around 30-35 passengers in the bus. The passengers were being rescued by local police with the help of villagers before being shifted to Government medical college and hospital in Nagpur.

Prima facie probe indicated that a lighted cigarette butt could be behind the incident. Talegaon police in Wardha district and fire department are conducting probe. Senior officials too have rushed to the spot.

Sources said the fire was moving at the steady pace when it went up in flames.
