4 year old boy slips into 40 ft borewell in Gondia, rescue operations on

In a first of its kind incident in Vidarbha region, a 4 year old boy accidently fell into an unprotected borewell, while he was on his way home with his grandmother after grazing goats in Raka Paratwada village in Sadak Arjuni tehsil of Gondia district on Wednesday afternoon. Till late evening Nagpur district collector Sachin Kurve, who was contacted by Gondia collector for assistance, sent few army battalions for the rescue operation which was on till late night. No activity is being observed from the child which has been the matter of concern for the rescue officials.

Sources said the little boy, identified as Vivek Donode fell into the 40 feet deep borewell dug into a field in the village. The villagers went into the tizzy as soon the news spread. The villagers soon informed district administration following which the rescue operation brought into action. Gondia collector Vijay Suryawanshi also reached the spot where the boy met with the tragedy. Suryawanshi sought help from Nagpur Divisional Commissioner Anup Kumar. The JCB machines are being operated around the borewell to take the child out to safety however the machineries could not achieve anything substantial till the time of filing the report.

Sources said NDRF or Defence Team is called upon under such emergencies however the team could not be called as NDRF Centre is located as Pune and immediate help was not possible from the said brigade. The Divisional Commissioner then contacted Nagpur District Collector Sachin Kurve who contacted Brigadier DV Singh at Kamptee cantonment. A team of Army with available resource reached the spot late in the evening.

Meanwhile, the villagers have gathered at the spot where the army was facing difficulties in dragging the child out of the borewell.
