Nagpur: In a tragic road accident on Tuesday afternoon, three businessmen from Jabalpur were killed on the spot, while at least six to seven passengers of a private bus sustained injuries in a deadly three-vehicle collision near Wadamba village in Ramtek tehsil, about 60 km from Nagpur.
According to police sources, the accident occurred around 2 pm and involved a car, a private bus, and a stationary truck. Eyewitnesses said the driver of the car swerved suddenly to avoid colliding with a motorcycle, lost control, and veered into the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with a speeding private bus coming from the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that both vehicles crashed into a parked truck, leaving the car completely crushed.
The deceased have been identified as Kapil Mohanlal Sahani (50), resident of Gorakhpur Road, Jabalpur; Amit Anil Agrawal (51) of Tilheri, Jabalpur; and Sandeep Kedarnath Soni (51) of Bhedaghat Road, Jabalpur. Kapil and Amit were hotel owners, while Sandeep worked as a contractor. The trio, who were close friends, were travelling from Nagpur to Jabalpur in their car bearing registration number MP-20-ZA-0014.
The private bus, belonging to Satyam Travels (MP-22-ZG-5822), was headed from Jabalpur to Nagpur. A truck (RJ-A11-GC-6663) was parked by the roadside near Wadamba when the accident occurred. Locals claimed that the bus was travelling at high speed and failed to brake in time, worsening the severity of the crash.
Among the injured bus occupants were driver Raju Chaurasia (35), conductor Sanjay Yadav, cleaner Sanjay Merskolhe (21), and several passengers hailing from Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Odisha. They were immediately shifted to the Rural Hospital at Deolapar, and those with serious injuries were later referred to Nagpur for further treatment.
Police officials noted that the stationary truck may have prevented an even greater tragedy, as the bus could have plunged into a nearby ditch had it not collided with the truck.
In a related incident, motorcyclist Rupchand Maruti Deewate (62) and his wife Shakuntala Deewate (54), both residents of Parseoni, were also injured while trying to steer clear of the accident scene.
Teams from the Deolapar Police Station rushed to the spot soon after the mishap, cleared the traffic, and assisted in rescue operations. A case has been registered, and further investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
