2nd FIDE rated Maharashtra State Selection Rapid and Blitz Chess championship Inaugurated

Nagpur News : The Gaikwad – Patil group of Institutions in Assosiation with Institution of Engineers (IEI), Nagpur local chapter, has organized Tulsiramji Gaikwad-Patil Memorial 2nd FIDE rated Maharashtra state selection rapid and blitz Chess championship from 29th Jan – 31st Jan 2013. This championship was inaugurated today at the hands of Hon. Shri Ajay Patil, President NCP Nagpur and Ms. Ashwini Jichkar, Corporator NMC, Nagpur in IEI Hall Nagpur. Other guests present on this occasion were Prof. Mohan Gaikwad, Chairman, Gaikwad-Patil group, Prof. Sharad Patil, President, Gaikwad-Patil group of Institution, Shri. Vinod Gaikwad, Member GPG, Er. Kulkarni, Chairman IEI Nagpur Local Chapter, Dr. Dilip Mase, Secretary, IEI and Mr. Dilip Pagay, Chairman, MCA.  The tournament is recognized by Maharashtra Chess Association, All India Chess Federation, FIDE and conducted through Vidarbha Chess Association.

Shri. Ajay Patil while addressing the players encouraged them to develop sporting spirit. Ms. Ashwini kulkarni appreciated the efforts budding players specially girls participation. Prof. Sharad Patil, said, that the objective of the championship is to impart an opportunity to the players from Maharashtra region to participate and get Ranking Internationally. It will also provide a platform for the players to improve their skill through competition.

There will be total nine rounds which will continue up to 30th Jan, 13 followed by one day blitz event on 31st Jan 13. The Prize Distribution function of the Tournament is scheduled to take place on Thursday the 31st Jan, 13 at 5:30 pm. Nearly 250 players, of whom many are International / National Rated, are participating in the tournament. Since it is an open tournament, the participants will be all ages.  The winners in various categories will be awarded prizes worth Rs 1.0 Lakhs in cash along with trophies and two players from this event will represent Maharashtra State for the National event. Mr. Pravin Thakre from Jalgaon is the Chief Arbiter of this event. Prof. Suchitra Nayak and Master Aditya Pawar compeered the program and Prof. Sandeep Gaikwad, Convener of the Event proposed the vote of thanks. Prof. Vikrant Chole, Prof. Roshan Bande, Prof. Kiran Khode and other faculty members worked hard for the success of the program.
