Nagpur: Two goons attempted to kill a roadside snacks vendor and his assistant with sharp-edged weapons near Geetanjali Talkies on Central Avenue on Monday evening.
According to police, Umashankar Pannalal Gupta (50), a resident of Shanti Nagar, runs his ‘Guptaji Dabeli Corner’ near the cycle-stand of Geetanjali Talkies on CA Road. Around 5.45 pm, two goons, including Ibrahim Autowala, came to the roadside stall. They asked Umashankar to close his stall. After an argument, they attacked Umashankar with a sharp-edged weapon. When his assistant Suresh Mohanlal Gupta (22) tried to intervene, they stabbed him in an attempt to kill him and fled the spot. With deep abdominal injuries Suresh Gupta was rushed to Mayo Hospital.
Tehsil API Parteki, after registering a case under Sections 307, 34 of the IPC, launched hunt to nab the assailants.
