Nagpur:
Two former Corporators of Congress – Prashant Chopra and Suman Mishra – along with 250 other Congressmen have quit the party and joined BJP at a function organised at Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s residence in Mahal on Monday. The Congressmen who joined BJP include 62 office-bearers.

Prashant Chopra is husband of Gargi Chopra who is presently a Congress Corporator. While Prashant has decided to join BJP, Gargi will remain in Congress. Prashant was a popular Corporator between 2007 and 2017.

Speaking at the function, Gadkari said doors of the party are open for those who want to join it. Party will welcome them whole-heartedly. “BJP is not a place for fulfilling personal ambitions. For us, politics is a medium of social service. Apart from government every individual should make contribution for social cause. A political worker can do this in a better way,” Gadkari stated.

Apart from Chopra and Mishra, those who joined BJP include Mamata Gedam who was MPCC General Secretary, former Corporator Sheela Mohod’s husband Sanjay Mohod and others.

According to Jaiprakash Gupta, who had recently quit Congress and joined BJP, said that the Congressmen were disenchanted with internal bickering in the party. The party cadre was feeling suffocated the groupism is rampant in Congress. Gargi had resigned soon after getting elected as she and her husband were verbally abused by the father of another Congress Corporator. When the couple complained to city Congress leaders, they refused to take cognisance.

The BJP leaders present on the occasion include City President Sudhakar Kohale, MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh, NMC Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Jadhav, City Organising Secretary Bhojraj Dumbe and other leaders and workers.
