12 killed, several injured as unidentified men open fire in Assam’s Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: Twelve civilians have been killed after militants opened indiscriminate fire at a market are in Assam’s Kokrajhar. Security forces then engaged the militants in a firefight. Fifteen civilians have been reported injured in the incident.

Sources in Delhi have told TOI that the militants are suspected to belong to a Bodo outfit, that had issued a threat to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) recently. The sources said the attack an attack in Kokrajhar had been anticipated.

One terrorist has been killed in a gunfight with security forces, and an AK-47 has been recovered. Other militants are being pursued by security forces.

Between five and seven militants came to the market in an autorickshaw, reports have said. Apart from opening fire on the market, the militants also lobebd a grenade tha ravaged three shops.

Times Now reported that one other person has been shot by the security forces, but there is no clarity yet on whether this person was one of the militants.
