11 villages of Narkhed Tehsil included in Kar River Medium Irrigation Project

Nagpur: With the efforts of Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and positive decision by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, 11 villages of Narkhed Tehsil in Nagpur district have been included for irrigation facility under Kar River Medium Irrigation Project. The project is being undertaken by Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation (VIDC) in Karanja Tehsil of Wardha District.

With this move, 2798 hectare land in the 11 villages of Narkhed Tehsil will get the irrigation facility from the Kar River Project. Total 5645 hectare land in 34 villages of Karanja Tehsil, Ashti Tehsil and Narkhed Tehsil will come under irrigation. The project will have stock of 25.963 million cubic metres water. The total usage of water in the project is 34.03 million cubic metres out of which 26.43 million cubic metres will be utilised for irrigation and 1.93 million cubic metres water will be reserved for drinking water.

The Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation, in its meeting held on January 31, 2018, had submitted a proposal of Rs 363.63 crore for Kar River Medium Irrigation Project before the State Cabinet. The proposal was approved by the State Cabinet on Tuesday.
