10-12 persons booked in Chill-n-Grill firing incident

Nagpur: Sadar police have booked 10-12 persons, including a few employees of Chill-n-Grill Restaurant, in connection with the outrageous incident in which gun shots were fired in the air following a ruckus on Sunday night. The restaurant is situated near Ashoka Hotel Square, Sadar. The booked hooligans include the Chill-n-Grill employees Raj Bisen, Sonpal Rana, and 5-6 outsiders.

According to police, on Sunday around 1230 midnight, a group of 5-6 youths went to the Sadar-based restaurant under the influence of liquor. However, the security guard of the hotel refused to allow them enter the hotel at that late hours. It is learnt, a few young girls were seated in the hotel that time. However, the youths tried to enter the restaurant forcibly. But the guard foiled attempt leaving the youths enraged. Suddenly, one of the youths whipped out a gun and fired three shots in the air setting panic and chaos at the hotel. In the melee, a few drunkard youths managed to enter the restaurant and started ransacking the property.

On being informed about the late night turmoil, a team of Sadar police rushed to the restaurant but the rampaging youths managed to flee the spot even before the cops’ could reach. It is learnt that a few bouncers deployed in the hotel indulged in beating the youths leaving some of them injured.

In the meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police Deepali Masirkar too reached the spot and started monitoring the situation and also issued directives to Sadar cops. Subsequently, police on Monday morning booked around 10-12 accused including Raj Bisen, Sonpal Rana and the group of rampaging youths.

Police have mounted an intense probe to determine who fired gun shots in the hotel. It is learnt that the hotel employees Raj Bisen and Sonpal Rana have been taken into custody and being grilled. Till the filing of the report, no accused has so far been arrested.

On February 15, 2016, there was a press conference in Zone-1 where all the Deputy Commissioner of Police including DCP (Crime) Ranjan Sharma, DCP Shailesh Balkawde, DCP Sanjay Latkar were present.

While addressing the media personnel, DCP Sanjay Latkar clarified that though the control room had received news of firing in the Chill and Grill Restaurant, DCP Deepali Masirkar had reached the spot and had investigated the crime scene, they could not find the bullet shells or any spot where the bullets hit.

DCP Latkar also clarified that though there were blood stains on the floor, the injured fled the spot. Another two people including a girl who was present at the spot, and were to be questioned by the cops today, their mobile phone is switched off.

While speaking to Nagpur Today, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-2) Sanjay Latkar said that he himself also visited the crime spot and had questioned the Manager and the staff of the Restaurant. He said that the staff had said that there did occur some dispute and quarrel with the staff. He added that a case of riot has been registered in Sadar Police Station too. We are investigating further and whatever is revealed in the investigation will be revealed to the media soon.

While speaking to Nagpur Today, Assistant Commissioner of Police Waghchaure said that they have lifted some culprits and are undertaking an identity parade to ascertain if they were present at the scene of crime. He added that till now they have not arrested anyone in this regard since if they are arrested they will get bail. They want to ascertain if they can be penalized under the Arms Act too.

Some persons who were eye-witnesses of the crime said that around eight youth had stormed into the placed armed with swords, knives and rods. They did attack some waiters too. They had hit some women with lathis too. These goons had broken the windshield of a car too. However, no one knows why none of these victims filed any police complaint.
