Whatsapp admin held for hurting religious sentiment

Nagpur: Those posting controversial information on Whatsapp, beware! An admin of Whatsapp in the city has been arrested by Sakkardara cops and put behind bars for hurting religious sentiments.

The accused is Rakesh Thakur (40), who is a resident of Sakkardara and runs a transport business. He has created “Lion Local Truck” group on Whatsapp. The complainant is also a member of this group.

Rakesh posted an objectionable message on the group on June 20. This hurt the religious sentiments of the complainant who lodged a complaint with Sakkardara police. Since the matter was sensitive, cops took swift action. Offence was registered against the accused and he was arrested immediately. Cops also seized the cellphone of the accused.

Members of Whatsapp group are in panic due to this incident. Cases of posting objectionable posts on Whatsapp group are increasing day by day, causing law and order problem.

Investigation officer Deva Netam produced the accused in the court, seeking police custody remand (PCR) for him. However, the court turned down the demand and instead remanded him to magisterial custody.
