Nagpur News : South East Central Railway (SECR) Nagpur will take on Sports Authority of India, Sundergarh in the final of the 1st All India VHA-NAGPUR Gold Cup Hockey Tournament organised by Vidarbha Hockey Association at its ground. The tournament is being organised under the aegis of Hockey India.
In the fist semi-final, SAI, Sundergarh pipped Maharashtra XI by a solitary goal while VHA Senior Division Champions SECR thrashed Sports Hostel, Rourkela 4-1.
PK Agrawal, Joint Commissioner, Sales Tax, Nagpur Division, Nagpur was the chief guests of the semi-finals on Friday.
The final will be played at 3.30 pm on Saturday after the third place match between Maharashtra XI and Sports Hostel Rourkela which will be played at 2 pm.
OLYMPIAN ASHOK KUMAR TO GRACE PRIZE DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION
Three-time Olympian and 1975 World Cup winning player Ashok Kumar will grace the prize distribution function of the 1st All India VHA-Nagpur Gold Cup Hockey Tournament. Shyam Wardhane, Municipal Commissioner, Nagpur will be the chief guest of the final.
VHA president BC Bhartia, secretary Vinod Gawai, vice president Unnat Khanna, Arif Khan, Joint Secretary Bhaskar Naidu, treasurer Ghanshyam Purohit, Ravi Francis, Ravi James, Harish Sisodia, DV Talewar, Sushil Masram and other members will also remain present.
Ashok Kumar, son of legendary Major Dhyanchand, has played three World Cups (1971, 1973, 1975), and two Olympics at Munich and Montreal. Ashok Kumar is recipient of in 1974 and is presently working as Director of Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy, Bhopal.

1st semis: SAI Sundergarh 1 (Sushil Ekka 63rd min) beat Maharashtra XI 0.
