Nagpur Metro project to launch BIM Academy

Nagpur Metro project work is in full swing. On the North South corridor, the work of At Grade section is almost over and the remaining part is also on track. The work of East West corridor is underway from Rani Jhansi Square to Lokmanya Nagar. The work on twenty stations is already started.

In line with the global best practice, MAHA-METRO Rail Corporation has adopted 5D BIM digital platform to manage the project and mitigate project challenges majorly leading to time & cost overruns. BIM being the integral part of overall 5DBIM technology, the benefits of BIM is not only available during construction, but more significantly in the operation & maintenance phase of Metro Projects. This is a pioneering approach, one of its kinds which we are doing for the first time in metro projects in India.

5D BIM implementation work for Nagpur Metro project is in the final stage of completion and is planned to be operational by next month.

In order to nurture and train the manpower to enable the ecosystem to extract the benefits of BIM for the metro projects, a world class facility – the BIM Academy is being established under the umbrella of MAHA-METRO. This will bring together the best practices of BIM & Asset information Management System. Currently the two projects Nagpur Metro and Pune metro will directly benefit from this academy. However the primary purpose of this academy shall be to impart the knowledge and know-how to channel partners like DDC, GC, Consultants, Contractors, Stake-holders, IT industries & other metro organizations in India, which will pave the way for all upcoming metros in India to adopt the state of art BIM technology.

MAHA-METRO BIM Academy a collaboration of MAHA-METRO & Bentley Institute will be located in the Nagpur Metro office.

Inauguration of the MAHA-METRO BIM Academy will be held on February 17 at Chitnavis Centre, Nagpur. Padmashri Dr. Deepak Phatak, Professor, Dept of Computer Sc. And Engg, IIT Bombay will preside over the function. The event will be attended by Brijesh Dixit, MD MAHA-METRO , Sunil Mathur, Director Rolling Stock and Systems, Mahesh Kumar , Director Projects and S. Sivamathan, Director Finance along with the MDs, Directors and IT heads of other metro projects across the country. The event will also be attended by the IT companies.

During the various sessions in the event, Global Technology experts like Mr. David Robertson, Director of BIM advancement academy & Dejan Papic, BIM Manager, Bentley Institute will present the best practice from other global rail projects & share their experience on use of BIM in metro projects in UK and other countries & project its application of same in Indian Metro projects.
